How to Steam
Before you begin, gently wash your intimate area with warm water.
Step 1: Boil
Fill a medium to large pot halfway with 4 to 6 cups of water. Empty one Qi Era pouch into the pot, cover, and let it boil for 30 minutes. The water will turn fragrant and golden-brown as the herbs release.
Step 2: Transfer
Carefully pour the herbal infusion into a heat-safe basin, yoni steam stool, or large bowl. Use a strainer to catch the herbs while releasing the liquid. Let it cool for 2 to 3 minutes before you begin. The steam should feel warm and comfortable, never hot.
Step 3: Steam
Position yourself comfortably over the steam and relax for 15 to 20 minutes. Use this time to rest, breathe, or simply be still. When you're finished, gently rinse your intimate area with warm water and discard the herbs. Your ritual is complete.
Steaming Setup Options
No steam seat? No problem. Here are two easy ways to steam at home:
Option A: Toilet Bowl Method
Pour the strained herbal infusion into a heat-safe bowl and place it inside your toilet bowl. Sit on the toilet seat as you normally would and let the steam rise naturally.
Option B: Sitz Bath Basin
Use a sitz bath basin (available at most pharmacies or online). Pour the strained herbal infusion into the basin, place it over your toilet seat, and sit comfortably above the steam.

Common Questions
What is a vaginal/yoni steam?
It's a traditional self-care practice rooted in many cultures, including Chinese herbal medicine. You sit above a bowl of warm herbal water and allow the gentle steam to reach the outer tissues. In TCM, it's used to bring warmth and circulation to the pelvic area.
How often should I steam?
Many women incorporate steaming one to three times per month as part of their wellness ritual. Listen to your body and find a rhythm that feels right for you.
Do I need special equipment?
Not necessarily. You can use a heat-safe bowl placed inside your toilet, or you can purchase a dedicated steaming seat. The most important thing is that you're comfortable and that you've tested the steam temperature before you begin.
Is this safe?
When used as directed, herbal steaming is a gentle practice. However, it is not for everyone. Please read our full safety section above before use.
Can I steam if I have an IUD?
We recommend that you do not steam if you have an IUD or any internal contraceptive device. Please consult your healthcare provider if you have questions.
